In order to expand my knowledge of Star Wars I am taking my first step into the EU or as it is called The Expanded Universe. I have been afraid to do so, because I truly enjoy the movies George Lucas created and have always felt that was enough. I didn’t need to know any more than what George Lucas provided. However, I have to admit, it would be cool to know what happens with Luke, Leia, and Han after Return of the Jedi or to learn more about what Obi Wan Kenobi was up too after The Phantom Menace. This step of mine feels over whelming, and here’s why.
There are tons and tons of books and comics; where does a newbie start? Luckily, I received some help from the Twitter community and they recommend Shadows of the Empire by Steve Perry. I believe I read this book a long time ago in a high school, but I have forgotten it. Another Twitter follower suggested The Lost Tribe of the Sith by John Jackson Miller, which I have never read, and it should be interesting.
The Expanded Universe has an expanded time line. The time line is HUGE and complicated. I did locate a cool time line on the web link provided below. I will say being a history major, I do enjoy time lines, and this one looks very interesting to study.
I hope my experience in the EU will be a good one. I am looking forward to learning more about my favorite characters. Since I play SWTOR, it would be nice to have more of a background into that time period. I will keep you posted on my experiences, and contact me if you have any suggestions.
